Can you guess who that shadowy figure Jack Sparrow is fighting with?
Also did you ever wonder if Jack Sparrow plans it all out or makes it up as he goes along? .... He answers this in the movie.
I guess the absence of Will Turner and Elizabeth Swan-Turner gave it a different feel. But not having those characters back was probably for the best since their relationship seems overplayed and overused and it was refreshing to see new characters being introduced such as Blackbeard played by Ian McShane and Angelica played by Penelope Cruz.
I believe Johnny Depp played Captain Jack Sparrow beautifully. But compared to the previous films I thought his chacracter was fun but a bit more serious. But this subtle change in his character may have been brought by his encounter with Angelica, a former flame.
Blackbeard is regarded as a notorious pirate feared by many including pirates alike. The ship he captains The Queen Anne's Revenge is rather impressive as it packs a lot of firepower and is possibly under Blackbeards strange powers. He seems to be able to sail and captain the ship as though it were on "autocaptain". Blackbeard appears to be very intimidating but his character isn't as strong as Capt. Barbossa's in the 1st Pirates movie or Davey Jones. I think he could have been made to be more viscious!
The mermaids were a lovely addition to the story, they were beautiful monsters. The fight that ensued between the mermaids and pirates was great! They seemed more like piranhas with a woman's face!
Also, I wish that even though they're no longer in the story that The Flying Dutchman could've made a cameo appearance in the film. It would have been a nice surprise for fans of the movie to see.
Overall the movie was really good, it was nice to see Captain Jack Sparrow in action again. Speaking of action this movie is certainly not lacking in that. There are sword fights, gun fights, voodoo, coconut fights? and of course rum!
I enjoyed the film! And though it was rather strange, or should I say different because of the absence of certain characters it still is a movie about Pirates of the Caribbean!
